909 REASONS WE LOVE DOWNTOWN POMONA

At a recent DPOA marketing meeting, downtown promoter Ed Tessier pitched an ad campaign that uses tongue and cheek psychology to promote the downtown. As a culturally aware , artistic, creative, and spontaneous group of people inhabiting the downtown for work, pleasure ,business, or residence, the idea that this jewel of the Inland Empire and hub of all that is progressive, good, and wholesome and by association "The real 909", it was almost laughable (which of course is the point of the campaign)when we were asked to come up with 909 reasons why we love downtown Pomona...piece of cake Mr. Tessier, not even a contest!

Think you can come up with 909 reasons why you love downtown Pomona? Give it a try, we'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, here are a few;

We only have one Starbucks
No hair, new hair, green hair, blue hair
Usually, you can't smell Chino
There had to be something between Pasadena and Vegas
There's never been an Olsen Twin sighting

Actually, I'm being serious now: The community makes you feel like you belong there right off the bat -- no waiting years before being accepted as One Of Us!

#5 - We're L.A. County's 5th largest City, yet feels like the fifth smallest.

#825 - There are more people IN our holiday parade than lining the sidewalks watching.

#613 - Because David Allen is a household name here.

p.s. isn't there also a starbuck's in phillip's ranch, which would make it a total of 2? btw the Peet's at the Shoppies in Chino Hill just closed.

Can we go for 909 reasons we love Pomona (not just downtown Pomona)? Some ideas...

- One out of every three residents blogs about the city.

- No license needed to fish at Lake Pomona.

- A vibrant multi-cultural bargain hunting center known as the Swap Meet.

- More pho places than people who know how to pronounce pho.

Great public library twice the size of any of the surrounding communities, or any of the LA County branch libraries I've seen.

My Kind of Town Pomona is, one town that won't bring you down it's my kind of town. (apologies to the memory of Frank Sinatra and that "other" town.

When you've got worries all the noise and the hurry seems to help, I know,
Downtown (Pomona).
Downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown, no finer place for sure,
Downtown, everything's waiting for you.
Apologies to Petula Clark.

While not a "city that never sleeps," at least it's mostly open after 6:00 pm (can Claremont say that?).

Urban chic.

A downtown where within 3 blocks you can dine on Japanese, Middle Easter, Vietnamese, New York, Barbecue, Continental, and, believe it or not, Mexican. A truly international feast.
