Blog Statistics

Today marks the 91st posting of this blog since its inception in July 2008. The thing about blogs is...you never really know if anyone is watching, or paying attention, or getting any benefit from it. The purpose of this blog, yes there is a purpose, or at least there was a purpose, an objective, when the blog was created, and that is simply to let folks know what is going on in Downtown Pomona and to do it in a positive way.

Recently a discussion of blogs came about with some of our elected City officials, the gist of the conversation had to do with how negative some of the blogs can be and that this blog for the most part carries a positive message. Of course carrying a positive message doesn't always make for interesting reading, but by and large there are more positive happenings in this town than negative. And so we set off to learn who, how many, and where people are logging onto this blog. Somebody must be paying attention because as it turns out we have visitors from all around the world and in fairly large numbers. It was a surprise to learn that the site had more than 200,000 hits last month, it seems to be growing each month. As a blog "novice" this information may not mean that much, but with large numbers like these it certainly looks impressive.

the purpose of free speech and news outlets including bloggers is to be a watchdog for the goverment. if there is something the govt isn't doing right, how are they going to know without said "negative" bloggers. I am actually for the most part pretty positive. I haven't complained about our mayor or whatnot on my blog. but really. do they expect us to just let them run OUR city without our input? it's a democracy for crying out loud, they should be listening to the public. p.s. thumbs up to whoever put out more patrol cars and bicycle cops. we just need more bicycle cops in south pomona.

Should a blog be only positive? Hmmm.. Let me rephrase the question: If you witness something that you don't agree with or that you think is wrong, should you tell somebody? Without even asking, I think I can guess my nine-year old's answer to the question.

IMHO, many of Pomona's problems are the result of not speaking up. I don't blame the MetroPomona blog from taking a slightly different course, given its association with a business interest. That being said, it's ironic to read MetroPomona criticize other Pomona blogs for being critical. Also I should point out that since I've lived in Pomona, David Allen has tossed quite a few bombs at various elements (including politicians)in the city, and yet he seems well received by both Metro Pomona and our elected officials.

In the end, we're all trying.

Excellent points Ed. Metro Pomona does serve a biased audience, namely the downtown business community, and in so doing tends to "promote" itself to the public. There was no criticism intended towards other blogs, but rather a case of jealously with their freedom of speech.

Don't worry about anyone reading. I'm here on an almost daily basis. The comments about negativity are way off base. Have they read some of the championing of Pomona on the various blogs out there. We regularly defend our city against those who wish to characterize our diverse city as "dangerous" or in some other way evil.

From what I've read on the Pomona blogs has been a love for our city. Sometimes we don't like some things going on, but we're always criticizing to try and improve things.

Now the comments at the Daily Bulletin's blogs are something else again. They actually scare me sometimes.
