SCA Art Film Festival a Success!
 The first annual SCA Art Film Festival was success. Last Saturday upwards of 100 people attended the free outdoor event in Thomas Plaza, right here in beautiful Downtown Pomona. The event was the brainchild of Bob Peece and had the backing of Cheryl Bookout of SCA and the DPOA. The weather cooperated too, a beautiful evening, perfect for this outdoor event. "Looks like this will be an annual event" said Bob...so we'll see you there next year!

AMOCA Night At The Movies
A Night at the Movies Saturday, October 11th, 4-6pm On Saturday, October 11th, the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) will present The Village Potters of Onda. This fascinating 27 minute documentary film, created in the 1960’s, by artist Robert Sperry explores the production of the historic pottery making village of Onda, Japan before it was forever changed by machine production. This documentary, which has been re-released by AMOCA, was formerly only available film and is now available on DVD at the museum for $29.95. This event is free with admission and is in conjunction with our exhibition, Robert Sperry, Bright Abyss through November 8th. Refreshments will be served. A full color 271 page book titled Robert Sperry, Bright Abyss covering the lifetime achievements of Sperry, published by AMOCA with text by Matthew Kangas will accompany this exhibition. Hard cover $69.50, soft cover $49.50. Tequilla Bar Approved
At last night's Pomona Planning Commission meeting the commission voted unanimously to approve the Conditional Use Permit for a Tequilla bar to be located at 184 W. Third St (The Prog building and former home of Postal Annex). A power point presentation was made to the commission by Assistant Planner Heidi Fanous and several people spoke in favor of the project. There were no dissenters. The proprietors of the bar will be Ed & Alejandra Tessier. After listening to the power point presentation and Ed Tessier's comments this observer is very impressed with the research and committment displayed by the Tessiers. The bar will feature over 200 premium tequilla brands and boasts a dessert menu like nothing ever seen in these parts. Some tequillas will retail for as much as $600 a bottle, but have no fear, there will be cactus squeeze to fit any budget. Speakers included Dwayne Kaiser, George Cuttress, Terry Dipple, Arturo Jimenez, and Mervyn Seldon. Summarizing the comments; "Bring it on! A wonderful project which is a class act!". TONY CERDA PARK
The Pomona City Council by unanimous vote tonight decided to change the name of Madison Park to Tony Cerda Park. The process, started almost a year ago by Cerda proponents finally paid off. The Chamber was full of Tony's family, friends, and supporters, which in the end won the day. Congratulations Tony! Labels: City News

 Does anyone know the real status of the Watt Companies "Artisan" project in the downtown? We all remember the demolition work which took down two city blocks to make room for the $100 million Artisan project. Recently the Vault building was yellow tagged by the City for fear of falling debris as an aftermath of the recent earthquake. Watt Companies responded quickly by reinforcing parts of the building with plywood and installing still more chainlink fencing to keep the area around the building safe for passing pedestrians. So now there are two city blocks encircled with chainlink fencing. The economy slowed and the housing market went into a tailspin...certainly no time to build more housing units. So it's perfectly understandable that the Watt Companies would put the Artisan project on hold. But now, it seems, the Artisan Project has been removed from the Watt website. Is the project so delayed that it doesn't warrant space on the website, or has the project been canceled, or perhaps sold to another developer? Anyone know? Labels: upgrades

Envisioning the Future Mural Finished!
 After almost 5 years the beautiful mural that is so much a part of Downtown Pomona is finally finshed. With the dogged persistence of Cheryl Bookout, and the generous financial assistance provided by the Vehicle Parking District (VPD), the artists have finished the project and even given the mural a few coats of varnish to protect it for years to come.
